• Founded in 1920, Parkdale was named after early homesteader William Parker when engineers decided to build a railway station alongside a cluster of five bayside shops.

• The Parkdale Post Office opened on 6 January 1921.

• Most of Parkdale’s development in residential Parkdale took place post 1940.

• In 1958, Parkdale was chosen as the site of one of Victoria’s first drive-in shopping centres, Thrift Park which is set to be rebuilt this year.

• In the 2006 Census, there were 10,618 people residing in Parkdale of which 48.2% were male and 51.8% female.
